The resulting sculptures are objects that are materially fragile. Through the addition of charcoal the
vernacular form of a stove is anchored. The inherent logic in these stove forms (a site of heat, state change and combustion) are rendered in the material of a screen or newspaper. Material duality like this creates a presence that splits both associative worlds. This allows them to anthropomorphize and create something that can be named but not placed. The shift in scale pushes it away from the utilitarian nature of the stove, creating an important distance from it as the referenced object.
